The number of malnourished children is rising in Gujarat, as per the state government’s own data furnished in the Assembly.

Malnutrition on the rise in urban Guj, tribal areas worse

This rise is more pronounced in tribal and rural areas than in urban ones. In response to a question raised in the Assembly by Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani, the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare stated that the number of malnourished children in Ahmedabad district is 2,236 and in Dahod district is 18,326 in the zero to six-year age group, while the number of underweight children was 497 and 5,101 respectively. The figure of malnourished children over the last two years stood 575 in Dang district while it was 2,443 in Narmada district. Dashod, Narmada and Dang districts are dominated by tribals.
