Argentine superstar scores with famous left foot, wows crowd with some vintage display in victory over Australia
LEO AND BEHOLD

SOMETIMES adjectives don’t do justice to the beauty of Lionel Messi’s artistry. Sometimes it’s better to just sit back and enjoy when the master weaves his magic, and like an intricate but beautiful orchestra, his work ebbs and flows but never ceases to amaze. Like all great art, his game has the ability to awe, unite and inspire. It transcends religion, caste, creed and region. On Saturday, he was just that — like they say God’s chisel carving out yet another masterpiece drowned in Messi chants.

The Argentine skipper was pushed into the middle of a joyous post-match huddle as Argentina’s players jumped up and down to celebrate reaching the World Cup quarterfinals. Messi delivered again for his country, marking the 1,000th game of his era-defining career with his first goal in the knockout stage of a World Cup to lead Argentina to a 2-1 win over Australia on Saturday.
