The state is scheduled to go to polls later this year.

The harried police removed the flags. It later booked Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun under anti-terror law UAPA and sealed the state's borders.

Himachal's Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu set up a seven-member Special Investigation Team to expeditiously probe the putting up of Khalistani banners and pro-Khalistan slogans and graffiti on the Assembly building outer walls. The SIT has been directed to contact state and central intelligence agencies to unearth inter-state and international linkages, if any.

The DGP also ordered beefing up security across the state, citing pro-Khalistan activities' and the banned SFI's announcement of a Khalistan referendum day on June 6.Strict checks on vehicles and people entering the state would be carried out.
