Sex Pistol's ode to wife was a worthy Eurovision entry

A Sex Pistol competing at Eurovision would have made for one of the most bizarre crossovers in music history. But it wasn't to be. The song "We Are One", performed by Wild Youth was chosen as Ireland's entry defeating five other finalists including John Lydon and his band Public Image Ltd (PiL).

But Lydon's bid was worth a shot. It raised eyebrows when it was first announced. It probably didn't help that the former punk antagonist (who has an Irish passport thanks to his parents) himself dubbed the event "absolutely awful". Yet it's hard to accuse him of lacking sincerity.
