Tom praised for brave homophobia documentary

VIEWERS have praised Plymouth diver Tom Daley for his BBC documentary raising awareness of homophobia in countries across the Commonwealth.

The standalone programme sparked attention across social media, praising Tom’s bravery for using his position to speak up on the persecution of gay people in many countries.

‘Illegal to be Me’ saw Tom travelling to some of the countries in the Commonwealth where being gay is illegal, and even punishable by death. After the closure of the Commonwealth Games this week, the documentary sought to raise the profile of inequality throughout the games. Tom started the episode talking about his own struggles during his diving career, along with his marriage to Dustin Lance Black and his son, Robbie.
