Smith is picked to try to hold on to Sir Gary's seat

THE Conservatives have announced who they have chosen to fight to retain the South West Devon parliamentary constituency, which has had Sir Gary Streeter as its MP since 1997.

Sir Gary announced that he was stepping down in November last year, and the Conservative Party set about finding a suitable candidate to carry on representing voters.

The South West Devon Conservative Association has revealed that its candidate will be Plymouth City Council’s Plymstock Radford ward councillor Rebecca Smith, who won her council seat in May 2018. She was chosen at a special general meeting on May 24.
