MENTAL health charity Samaritans, which offers a 24/7 confidential helpline, has encouraged people to check in and look after one another – especially if they spot somebody in distress – after three deaths in one week in and around Plymouth.
The challenges that people face up and down the country have been felt even more deeply over the past two years, as the pandemic and economic uncertainties continue to have a profound impact on the nation’s mental health.
Reaching out to someone could help them know that someone cares, that they are valued, and help them access the support they need - whether that’s a family member, a friend or someone you may notice out and about in the community who might be struggling to cope.
The charity’s confidential helpline is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Every 10 seconds, Samaritans responds to a call for help and in 2021, Samaritans volunteers spent more than one million hours supporting people who called the confidential helpline.
