REFERRALS to mental health services in Plymouth have almost doubled since the beginning of the pandemic and there is likely to be even higher demand due to the cost-of-living crisis, a meeting has heard.
Sara Mitchell, strategic mental health lead at Livewell Southwest, addressed Plymouth City Council's health and wellbeing board on Thursday, and said there had been a huge rise in demand.
"The number of referrals accepted now compared to pre-pandemic is significantly higher," she said.
"So we've got here the numbers of 23,000 are now accepted compared to 12,500 [prepandemic]." Ms explained demand for 66 Mitchell how services was likely to increase with the cost-of-living crisis and post-Covid concerns.
