Schuey thrilled with a five-star display

PLYMOUTH Argyle added a cutting edge to their attacking play as they hammered Torquay United 5-0 in their latest pre-season game at Plainmoor.

The Pilgrims' players responded to a call from manager Steven Schumacher to be more ruthless in front of goal, much to his satisfaction.

Schumacher had seen his side perform creditably in back-to-back home games against Championship sides Swansea City and Bristol City last week, and create a number of good chances, but convert just one of them. That was when Ryan Hardie grabbed a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Welsh side Swansea at Home Park.

He re-emphasised the importance of making the most of scoring opportunities during a training session at Harper's Park on Monday and that message seemed to sink in for the game against Torquay Argyle, again lining up in their new 3-4-2-1 formation, led 3-0 at half-time after fine shots from outside the penalty area by Finn Azaz, Danny Mayor and former Torquay loan signing Adam Randell.

First-year scholar Jack Endacott, who played at left wing-back after taking over from Mickel Miller for the start of the second period, and Mayor added further goals for the visitors before the hour mark.

There was a flurry of substitutions after that, with Schumacher eventually replacing all of his players apart from midfielder Matt Butcher, but the score remained 5-0 until fulltime.
