Schumacher had this message for the supporters who will be travelling along the south coast: "Come up there and support us, get behind us like you always do away from home.
"The support last time on the road, away at Derby, definitely spurred us on, especially when we were 2-0 down at half-time. The backing the lads got gave us that energy to go and put in the performance that we did in the second half.
"So we are going to need something similar, and I know our fans always look forward to this game anyway. We will make sure the players put in a performance they will be proud of."
With the cities of Plymouth and Portsmouth so closely associated to the Royal Navy, it seems appropriate the respective football teams will be playing each other just a couple of days before the state funeral of Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
