A TROUBLED Plymouth school has put a 'gatekeeper' in place to stop pupils leaving the site. Ofsted inspectors rated Mount Tamar School inadequate' during an inspection in November 2021.
During that inspection, it was found students at the Row Lane school in Higher St Budeaux, "frequently leave the site or climb on the roof". It also reported that "violent behaviour is common" As a result, inspectors placed the school into special measures. During a monitoring visit on November 15, 2022, Ofsted found the school "remains inadequate and requires special measures".
Inspectors decided that "leaders have made insufficient progress to improve the school" and due to this, would not be allowed to appoint early career teachers before the next monitoring inspection.
The school, which is maintained by Plymouth City Council for children from Year Three up to Year Eleven with additional needs, says it is "continuing to focus on its development plan" which was put in place after the initial 'inadequate' judgement.
