My name is Matt and I am an alcoholic. I got sober 12 years ago all thanks to Alcoholics Anonymous.
Hopefully by sharing what happened to me it might help someone reading this to reach out for help.
I started drinking at school to try and cope with feelings of anxiety, depression and loneliness but I always got insanely drunk.
I have never been able to control my drinking. I could never drink safely or responsibly. I simply have no cut-off switch when it comes to alcohol.
Over the years all methods to stop or control my drinking failed and eventually I couldn't cope anymore and drinking took over. I was constantly off on the sick.
All my friendships and work relationships were wrecked. But the people who suffered the most were the people closest to me - my family.
