THE long-awaited and much-heralded redevelopment of Plymouth Civic Centre appears to have moved a step closer.
The multi-million transformation of the iconic city centre building has long been on the cards ever since it was sold by Plymouth City Council to developers Urban Splash, reportedly for just £1. The scheme would see the tower converted to include 144 residential apartments, a mix of commercial uses, as well a new public realm and parking.
Work initially had been hoped to begin in 2022, but failed to do so, though some builders have been spotted inside the historic building.
Developers Urban Splash have remained confident that the abandoned building can be turned into a block of flats by 2025. The Manchester-headquartered company has commenced early works, paving the way for the full restoration of the Grade II* listed building.
