Plymouth Active put a statement on its website yesterday announcing that the Life Centre's main sports hall is being prepared as a place of respite for residents who have been - or are set to be evacuated following he discovery of a large World War Two bomb.
Parts of the centre were already closed yesterday as preparations were made.
Plymouth Active said the closure would begin today and continue for the foreseeable future.
It says the closure is to "support Plymouth City Council to ensure that the local community are in a safe and secure place until they are able to return to their homes."
Plymouth Active said: "Due to the current situation in Keyhamn we will be assisting Plymouth City Council and converting the Life Centre into a rest Centre for all the local people being evacuated.
