WILLY Wonka yesterday arrived in Plymouth to take to the stage for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – and even brought his own copy of The Herald with him.
A special copy of the newspaper has been made for the musical and was used on the stage to announce the grand opening of the Wonka factory which forms the backdrop to the children’s classic tale.
Actor Gareth Snook, who plays Willy Wonka, joined young actors Jessie-Lou Harvie and Amelia Minto who are among a quartet sharing the role of Charlie Bucket in the UK tour adapted from the Roald Dahl book.
The leading man has had a 43-year career on the stage and was last at Theatre Royal Plymouth in The Full Monty, so the latest role is a very different one – but he said it was an amazing character to play.
He said: “It’s Willy Wonka, and who doesn’t want to play Willy Wonka?
