Pupils impress with new bird hide designs
A BIRD hide which will be installed on Drake’s Island has been designed by Plymouth primary school children with help from staff at City College Plymouth.

The college has been working with ten and 11-year-old pupils at Mayflower Community Academy to design and build a bird hide to be used by visitors to the island, which is being opened up to the public.

The pupils have been designing and building scale-model bird hides as part of a design and technology project on frame structures, which also served to teach the children about local businesses.

As part of the project, the children were treated to a visit to Drake’s Island where they met entrepreneur and island owner Morgan Phillips, who acquired the land in 2019 and wants to make it a tourist destination so it can be enjoyed by the public.
