Pop superstars turn out for secret gig at pub in Saltash

POP superstars Bastille played a surprise gig at a small pub in Saltash on Saturday night.

The group, who were in Plymouth for their sold-out Pavilions show on Bank Holiday Sunday, joined drummer Chris 'Woody' Wood's dad Derek and his band for a special gig in the Union Inn.

Derek Wood, who regularly plays in venues on the local circuit, was scheduled to play in the Union Jack painted pub with his band, So Here We Are.

The newly formed five-piece consists of Hungry Bears duo Derek Wood and Rob Williams plus singer Nickie Lapthorn, Rich Jones, and Nick Carter.

Brit Award-winning Bastille had always planned to pop in and show their support at the small Saltash gig but rather serendipitously So Here We Are's drummer fell over and required treatment the night before the performance, leaving a convenient opening for a Plymouth lad and internationally renowned drummer.

With no rehearsal, Woody sat behind the drum kit for the intimate gig by the banks of the Tamar and was joined at various points throughout the evening by bandmates Kyle Simmons, Will Farquarson, and Dan Smith.
