POLICE yesterday took action to evict Travellers from a playing field using powers under Section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.
Plymouth City Council had served a ‘notice to quit’ on the group of Travellers, who arrived at Tothill Park in the St Judes area on June 5.
But police used powers to evict the group on the basis of reports of disorder, anti-social behaviour and crime.
Roughly half the group had already left the field on Wednesday evening, with eight caravans, a handful of vehicles and a horse left at the site yesterday morning.
