PROMOTER Mark Phillips promised that he would build a team that would be capable of challenging for honours this season. And on Tuesday, the Plymouth Gladiators showed their true capabilities with a superb 60-30 win against a strong Leicester Lions line-up.
Home favourite Ben Barker led the way with a perfect 18-point maximum from six rides, but this was by no mean a one-man show.
Captain Hans Andersen backed him up with 12+1, while Alfie Bowetell and Dan Gilkes scored nine each, and there was also a useful contribution of eight from guest Richard Lawson.
The Gladiators operated with a rider replacement for the absent Michael Palm Toft, while Henry Atkins chipped in with four, including a race win to complete a good night's work for manager Garry May's team.
“The main thing was to get a team win but to go through the card after six rides was really nice," rider of the night Barker said.
