The West End Health and Wellbeing Hub, planned for Colin Campbell Court, was the most advanced of six Cavell Centres, but NHS bosses have binned plans due to lack of money.
An email leaked to journalists at Health Service Journal said no cash should be spent or commitments made to contractors for any of the six Cavell Centres. The email, from NHS England's director of estates and facilities Simon Corben, said work on all the hubs should be halted until a national programme business case is approved.
This means the capital funding of £40m to £60m for each hub has not been approved and is now not likely to be in the foreseeable future. Board papers suggest the projects may be reconsidered for funding at the next comprehensive spending review in late 2024.
