PLYMOUTH’S Home Park has seen its fair share of magical nights over the past few months, with Plymouth Argyle defying the odds to take the League One title and return to the Championship. But on Saturday the stadium was transformed with 26,000 rock fans passing through the turnstiles for the Devon homecoming of one of the county’s most notable exports – the legendary rock band, Muse.
The stage was set, literally, with blue skies and sunshine beating down and an air of anticipation in the air. Sadly, for many the evening did not get off to the best start with queues to access the venue wrapping around the nearby Life Centre and once inside, considerable waits for food and drink. I wasn’t quite able to put my finger on the reason for the waits, but a lack of staff on the ground outside guiding people definitely didn’t help. Spare a thought for opening act The Warning, who didn’t play to as much of a crowd as they could have done had people entered in a more timely fashion.
Queues aside, once those lucky enough to get their hands on tickets were inside, what they were treated to over the next few hours banished any disgruntlement to a distant memory. Excitement was building and, as far as support acts go, Worthing rock duo Royal Blood were the perfect appetiser for the main course to follow.
