CANCER DIAGNOSIS PROMPTS AMBITIOUS RUNNING TARGET
KATIE OBORN
Marathon effort is just the start for Matthew

A PLYMOUTH police officer has completed the first of his epic series of running challenges that will see him tick off the world’s ‘Big Six’ marathons: London, Berlin, Tokyo, Chicago, New York and Boston – and he is doing so despite living with thyroid cancer since his diagnosis three years ago.

Matthew Jeffery took on the iconic London Marathon last month, running it in four hours 13 minutes. It is part of an ambitious fundraising effort for the cancer charity Macmillan Cancer Support, in recognition of the support he has received.

Via his online fundraising pagethe 29-year-old hopes to raise the sum of £100,000 over the next few years, in honour of the aid he has had from the Mustard Tree Macmillan Support Centre, based at Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital.
