A PLYMOUTH man has been sent to jail after he tried to smuggle cannabis into jail. Riley Morgan, aged 20 and of no fixed abode - but now being held at HMP Portland, in Dorset - appeared at Plymouth Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to a number of offences.
Prosecutor Althea Brooks told the court how on February 5, 2021 Morgan had been recalled to custody and on arrival at HMP Exeter he underwent a bodyscan. Asked he had placed anything inside himself he initially denied he had but later he confirmed that he did have cannabis on his person.
He was taken to a side room. After nature took its course, he excreted three packages, two of which were cannabis -7.7 grams and 9.84 grams - while the third contained tobacco.
Ms Brooks confirmed a drugs expert had determined that the herbal cannabis would be worth a lot more in the prison environment by comparison to the outside world and estimated that the 17.5 grams would have had a pris value of £175.
