RNLI Lifeboat crews and lifeguards play a vital role in keeping us safe at sea. On average, they saved more than a person a day from drowning in British and Irish waters in 2021.
Lifeboat crew member Dave Turnbull joined the RNLI in Dec 1992 as a volunteer. He is now Swanage lifeboat's full-time coxswain and mechanic. He answered our questions about his role.
Why did you become a lifeboat crew member?
My father was already involved with the lifeboat and I joined when they needed more crew to go on the new inshore lifeboat the station was getting.
