A PLYMOUTH street renowned for its edgy vibe is being brought back to life by a number of multicultural community spaces.
The area generally has a welcoming vibe, although some locals say that when night falls it could do with a larger police presence.
Union Street is teeming with historical treasured buildings, including the famous Palace Theatre, which was once a night-time venue drawing in clubbers from far and wide to party all night long.
These days the historic building is sadly crumbling, yet it still has a looming presence over the busy street. While Union Street is not as busy with nightlife as it once was, The Depo is keeping the party vibe well and truly alive.
Founders Ryan Platts and Ben Gill-Carey opened The Depo in 2021 in what was once the Crash Manor club. The 750-capacity venue became the permanent base of Plymouth event and entertainment company Casa.
That is not the only business bringing atmosphere to the street.
Described as an "asset" to Union Street, A Taskinha is a Portuguese café and restaurant, as well as shop.
Everything available here is either freshly made at the premises or shipped over from Portugal. The family-run business has been serving the community for 13 years in the same spot. It is open during the day and throughout the evening.
