COACH IS LEAVING HOME PARK DUE TO FAMILY REASONS

DOWNING DEPARTS

KEITH Downing has declared that his decision to leave his role as Plymouth Argyle's first-team head coach was not taken lightly.

However, the 56-year-old admitted it had been 'tough geographically for me and my family during his time at Home Park.

Downing, who is based in the Midlands, was brought in to work alongside Steven Schumacher in December, soon after the latter was appointed as the Pilgrims' boss.

The former England under-20s and under-19s head coach brought a wealth of experience to his role at Argyle as Schumacher adjusted to taking over as the manager after Ryan Lowe left for Preston North End.

Downing played an important part behind the scenes, along with, coaches Kevin Nancekivell, Darren Behcet, and Mark Hughes, as the Pilgrims challenged for a League One play-off place.
