PLYMOUTH'S business bosses are to be asked to back a council bid to reopen the city's mothballed airport. Plymouth City Council leader Richard Bingley aims to start a "public/private" partnership, with cross-party backing for a new airport on the disused Derriford site.
Cllr Bingley said a functioning airport is essential for the future economic growth of the city. He said: "It's almost disrespectful to not offer an airport to people who want to come here to trade or visit."
He added: "We need to ignite a campaign and it needs to be business driven. It needs to be a Plymouth expression, beyond politics. We need our employers to speak out and renew their commitment to an airport."
