Tiger Woods is set to attend a meeting today of PGA Tour players and the governor of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which could have a significant bearing on his approach to Ryder Cup captaincy.
The PGA of America is keen to have their captain for the meeting with Europe at Bethpage next September secured before next month's Masters. It was confirmed in November that Luke Donald will lead Europe's defence of the trophy in New York.
The widespread understanding is that the US role is Woods's should he want it but the 15-time major winner has thus far been non-committal both publicly and in private. He was always thought to have eyes on 2027 and Adare Manor.
Should he declare himself a nonrunner for Bethpage, Stewart Cink would be the clear favourite to take charge of the US team.
Much of Woods's spare time is taken up with matters on the PGA Tour's policy board, on which he sits as a player-director. Members of that board are scheduled to meet Yasir alRumayyan for the first time today.
