Finland was in mourning yesterday after the 12-year-old arrived at Viertola school in Vantaa, a city north of Helsinki, armed with a handgun on Tuesday morning.
State agencies and institutions were ordered to lower flags to honour the victims, and members of parliament paid their respects. Outside the school, candles and flowers were left in the snow.
Eastern Uusimaa police said the suspect had told them in questioning that he had been bullied, and that their preliminary investigation had confirmed this. They said the suspect had recently transferred to the school.
