The vice-president initially gained momentum over Trump after she replaced Joe Biden at the top of her party's presidential ticket, but a national poll conducted by the New York Times and Siena College released on Sunday found that Trump was up one percentage point over Harris, while another poll by the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard this week found they were tied, with a 47% favourability rating.
In the list of proposals, Harris said she would work to make childcare more affordable, strengthen social security and block any national abortion bans. She also pledged to reduce healthcare costs, increase the minimum wage, remove taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers, and address competitive practices by big corporations.
Harris warned that Trump was "probably going to speak a lot of untruths" during their debate.
"There's no floor for him in terms of how low he will go," Harris said in an interview that aired yesterday.
