In his first public engagement since his diagnosis in early February, he and the queen met cancer specialists and patients at the University College hospital Macmillan cancer centre, in a visit aimed at highlighting the importance of early diagnosis.
Charles sympathised with one cancer patient as she received chemotherapy along with others in a day unit, telling Lesley Woodbridge, 63: "It's always a bit of a shock, isn't it, when they tell you." He added: "I've got to have my treatment this afternoon as well." Asked about his health, the 75-year-old monarch told one patient: "I'm all right, thank you very much, not too bad." Asha Millen, 60, said the king had told her "I'm well" when she asked him how he was.
