Elements of the Sinulog Festival

The Freeman

|

January 17, 2026

Since its inception in 1980, the Sinulog Festival has gone from strong to stronger in living up to its standing as the grandest festival of its class in the Philippines.

Elements of the Sinulog Festival

Held every third Sunday of January, the festival has served as the socio-cultural complement to the Fiesta Señor (which is, formally, the religious component of a given Sinulog season) and, as such, it has amassed a revue of ancillary aspects and elements over the years. With this year's Sinulog Festival season now underway, we'll be dishing on what some of these “sinulog elements” are as our way of drumming up the Sinulog Grand Parade 2026.

The Festival Queen

Since 2004, the Sinulog Festival Queen pageant has become an indelible highlight of the Sinulog Festival. Essentially a bespoke beauty-and-dance-oriented tilt that searches for the best interpretation of a sinulog dance, the title was first won by Carla Sane Bono of Pinta Flores Festival, San Carlos City in 2004.
