The Government may find it difficult to sustain the nearly 20% growth rate in net direct tax collection in the next financial year starting April, senior finance ministry officials said on Friday.
Ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget on Feb 1, officials said the net direct tax collection could possibly slow down in 2023-24 (Apr-Mar) as the nominal GDP growth is seen lower.
Nominal GDP growth in 2023-24 is expected to fall owing to the looming threats of a global recession, they said.
