THE DIE IS CAST: Odds favour Siddaramaiah; DK Shivakumar miffed and goes into a sulk

SIDDA HAS HIS CAKE, B'DAY BOY MIFFED

As the battle for the chief minister’s post in Karnataka intensified, the dice seems to be loaded in favour of former chief minister Siddaramaiah. He reportedly secured the support of over 90 of the 135 MLAs in a secret ballot held Sunday night in a hotel in Bengaluru that went on till 1.30 am. This was confirmed by Siddaramaiah himself.

On Monday, Siddaramaiah, on a cue from the High Command, dashed to the national capital. But, curiously, the oth er contender for the chief minister’s post, DK Shivakumar, did not go as he ‘was down with a stomach’ infection.

That he is miffed at the turn of events was apparent. On being asked by a TV channel if the party will give him a birthday gift (in form of Chief Ministership), he said it's not in his hands and that "my assurance to them was that I will deliver Karnataka." Then, he opened up and said grudgingly, ‘‘They should have the courtesy to acknowledge who is behind the win.’’

He also hit back, saying: "I don't want to debunk any claim that Siddaramaiah is making about the MLAs who are supporting him. I don't want to disclose either what all has happened in the last five years.’’
