Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday defended the scrapping of four per cent reservation for Muslims in Karnataka saying "reservations provided to the minority were not as per Constitution. There is no provision in the Constitution to provide reservations on the basis of religion."
Addressing a rally in Bidar as part of BJP's poll campaign ahead of Assembly elections in May, he lashed out at the Congress for providing reservation on the basis of religion in the state.
He said the Congress provided reservation to the minority as part of its "polarisation politics". "The BJP scrapped that reservation and provided reservations to Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities," he added.
