Public sector undertakings are expected to spend 4.47 trin rupees, or 21.9%, more on infrastructure projects than original estimates, according to a report by the infrastructure and project monitoring division of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
The original cost of implementation of the 1,418 Centre-backed infrastructure projects, with investments worth over 1.5 bln rupees each, was pegged at 20.38 trln rupees.
The report, which provides a comprehensive study of the cost and time overruns of the projects, said that of the 1,418 projects, 823 face a delay with respect to the original schedule.
