Prime Minister Modi, while addressing a rally in Udhampur, which has a Hindu population of over 84 per cent, accused the INDIA alliance, in particular Rahul Gandhi and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, of having a "Mughal mindset" and enjoying mutton during the month of Sawan, when the devout are expected to stick to a fresh vegetable-based diet. With the media lapping up his speech in a big way, the phrase "Mughal mindset" had entered the poll lexicon by end of the day - a sequel to Modi's politically loaded allusion to the "Muslim League."
The Prime Minister was referring to a video, which is a throwback to September 2 last year, when Rahul, under the tutelage of Lalu, prepared 'mutton Champaran' and had a mouthful with Lalu's family members and Priyanka Vadra in attendance. Last year Sawan started on July 4 and ended on August 31, two days before the lavish mutton feast.
The Prime Minister charged, "During Sawan, they went to the house of a convicted man and cooked mutton. Not only did they have mutton, they made a video to tease the people of India."
