HC asks state government to file affidavit on steps taken to make city footpaths accessible

Making footpaths disabled-friendly

As the BMC is racing against time to make footpaths accessible for the disabled by widening the gaps between bollards, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday asked the state government to file an affidavit detailing the steps taken to make Mumbai footpaths friendly for such persons. It gave the direction, while hearing a suo motu petition. The HC also clubbed a plea on the lack of accessibility for the differently abled at public spaces like bus stops and terminals. The civic body has been given a May 17 deadline to address the bollard issue.
