Is the state in for yet another political realignment? This was the question being hotly discussed in political circles on Thursday, after video clips showing arch rivals Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and former CM Uddhav Thackeray entering the Vidhan Bhavan exchanging pleasantries and grinning ear-to-ear emerged. The BJP, led by Fadnavis, has been doing everything possible to politically decimate Uddhav Thackeray. So the sudden bonhomie set tongues wagging in the corridors of power and elsewhere.
Sources said recently that Tamil superstar Rajinikanth had conveyed a message to Uddhav on behalf of the central leadership of the BJP, as has been reported by the FPJ earlier. The meeting, which took place at Matoshree, Uddhav's private residence, was described by the Thackerays as a courtesy call. But apparently, it turns out that there was more to it than just courtesy.
The BJP and the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray had parted ways after the 2019 assembly elections, over the question of which party would bag the chief minister's position.
