Foreign criminals push jails to breaking point

FOREIGN criminals are responsible for many of the most despicable offences plaguing the nation today, latest figures suggest.

A tenth of people behind bars in England and Wales for violent and sexual offences are foreign nationals. Of the 28,282 people locked up for violent offences, 2,828 are foreign nationals.

And of the 15,283 imprisoned for sexual offences, 1,515 were not born here.
