COUNCIL LEADER HAD EXPECTED ANNOUNCEMENT BUT BUILDING'S MANAGEMENT COMPANY REMAINS SILENT

Still waiting for plans as Debenhams store marks four years since closure

THE future of Nottingham’s landmark former Debenhams store remains unclear as the long wait for plans to be unveiled reaches a key milestone.

The prominent city centre building, which makes up one corner of Old Market Square, has now been empty for four years.

The large and ornate structure, which had originally been the Griffin and Spalding department store, became vacant in May 2021 when Debenhams collapsed. Jersey-based Long Row Properties Limited first acquired the building in 2017 on the assumption they would receive a continuous income stream from Debenhams - something that proved relatively short-lived.
