THE FAMILY of Khia Whitehead insist they will 'never give up' on the teenager after a serving police officer 'destroyed his life!
PC Sarah De Meulemeester was only authorised to be a 'basic driver' at Greater Manchester Police, meaning she had to stick to speed limits.
But the officer drove at more than twice the limit through Stockport on a wet Boxing Day in 2020. The 26-year-old overtook a car and drove on the wrong side of a traffic island on Garners Lane, Adswood, when she hit then-15-year-old Khia.
Khia's friend with him on the day, who cannot be named for legal reasons, battled tears in court as he described the toll the incident had taken on him. He said it has 'ripped him apart' and he was devastated he would not be able to go on a 'lads holiday' with Khia.
Describing Khia as 'the most kindhearted and genuine person, he added: "My life will never be the same and the trauma will stay with me."
