On-loan striker Weghorst struck only his second goal in 15 games in the 4-1 Europa League round-of-16 win over Real Betis, having last scored in the League Cup semi-final victory at Nottingham Forest on January 25.
Weghorst has started all 15 games he has been available for since he arrived on loan from Burnley and the 30-year-old is set to line up at Old Trafford again against Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday.
Anthony Martial has missed United’s last 15 games due to a hip injury and he has been absent for 29 of United’s 43 matches this season. Martial has started 15 times for United in the last two years and Weghorst has started 15 times for United in the last two months.
“I think as you see he is often in the right position, then he fails but he keeps going,” Ten Hag said. “So, he showed great personality and character, not only in this game.
