TERRY Hall, the lead singer of The Specials, has died at the age of 63 following a brief illness, the band has announced.

The front man played a significant role in the Coventry-based band's rise to prominence in the late 70s and early 80s with hits such as Ghost Town, Too Much Too Young and A Message to You Rudy.

The band paid tribute to Hall in a statement released on social media following his death.
