Leigh's bright start was rewarded through Hanley's early try and Charnley celebrated his new one-year deal with his side's second at Leigh Sports Village Stadium.
Ryan Brierley, Leigh's record try-scorer in the Super League era, brought Salford back into the contest against his former employers, but the home side responded with Hanley grabbing his second of the half.
Charnley notched his 300th career try at the start of the second period and Leigh hammered home their impressive performance with further scores from Matt Davis, Brad Dwyer and Lachlan Lam before Tim Lafai went over for a late Salford consolation.
Leigh drew first blood when a Marc Sneyd knock-on presented Leopards with an opportunity in the danger area.
