Lies of teenage murderer who claimed his life was in danger

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, stabbed Paul Marsh in the shoulder, severing his carotid artery.

The 49-year-old had been at a social gathering at his friend's flat in Atherton, Wigan, on November 17 last year. During the afternoon, tensions escalated between the two, before they 'squared up to each other. The boy would later claim to jurors Mr Marsh had been 'nagging' him and his friend before they got up to leave.

Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard the boy had been at the flat a fortnight before on November 3 - and that there were 'issues' between him and Mr Marsh, which led to a fight.
