GREATER Manchester residents blasted Jeremy Hunt's Autumn Budget.
Mr Hunt announced plans for almost £25 billion in tax increases. He confirmed that Britain is facing a recession and that the target of his Budget is to bring stability and growth to the economy. It was also announced that state pensions, means-tested benefits and disability benefits would rise by 10.1 per cent, in line with inflation.
The M.E.N. asked shoppers in Droylsden, Tameside, what they thought of Mr Hunt's first Budget as Chancellor.
Lifelong Labour supporter Denise Ellis, 65, said: "I'm glad Universal Credit's gone up but the state pension was always going to go up because it's Brexiteers and pensioners that have voted for this government. I don't think the Tories have ever supported working classes in my lifetime so I suppose a little help is better than nothing at all.
