Police officers and Crime Scene Investigators swooped on Evanton Walk in Harpurhey following the 2 am attack.
No injuries were reported by police, but force dogs and a Tactical Assist Unit came to do a sweep of the house targeted in the incident.
Residents said they heard shots in the middle of the night but woke to see no trace of a crime shortly before police turned up.
"It was really loud [the gunshot]," one resident said.
"It was like one of those really loud fireworks, no smoke though. I jumped up in the night but didn't see anyone.
