Wigan take revenge in Hull of a mauling

RUTHLESS Wigan gained revenge for last year's Betfred Challenge Cup semi-final heartbreak as they crushed Hull KR 38-6 in Doncaster to seal their return to Wembley for the first time since 2017.

Jake Wardle and Abbas Miski both scored twice in a seven-try rout that erased memories of last year's golden point loss to the same team at the same stage and left under-par Rovers reeling.

Matt Peet's men last won the trophy in his first season in charge in 2022 when the final was played at Tottenham, and they will now face either Warrington or Huddersfield in a record-extending 34th Challenge Cup final appearance early next month.

Wigan were out of sight by half-time after a clinical opening 40 minutes in which they brutally exposed Rovers' weak foundations, running in five tries to establish a 24-0 advantage.

The raucous Rovers support had turned up the volume in a bid to inspire a repeat of last year's semi-final heroics but instead were served up arguably their side's poorest firsthalf performance of the season.
