A MUCH-LOVED great-grand mother had 'activated a crossing' and was walking over the road when she was hit by a car, an inquest hearing was told.
A vehicle struck Ann Bates, 82, on Manchester Road in Audenshaw, Tameside, near the Snipe Retail Park, at around 6pm on Monday, November 20. She died from her injuries a week later, on Sunday, November 26.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said at the time that the driver - 31-year-old woman remained at the scene and that an investigation was under way.
An inquest was today (Friday, December 22) opened into Mrs Bates' death at South Manchester Coroners' Court in Stockport. The hearing was told she was born in Hulme and was a retired legal secretary who lived in Audenshaw. She was the widow of taxi driver Frank Bates.
